Dancing Through The Rain

Allison2020 here, and I'm beyond excited to spill the tea on the story behind one of my dearest songs, "Bay Area Rainy Day." So, grab your favorite brew, get cozy, and let's dive in!

Imagine a typical rainy day, where the world outside your window is adorned in a blanket of soothing gray hues. But instead of feeling downcast, there's a palpable magic in the air – the kind that only comes with the gentle rhythm of raindrops pitter-pattering against your window panes.

Now, let's rewind a bit to my childhood, where the soundtrack of my life was filled with the soul-stirring melodies of my dad, Doug Midgley. His original compositions painted my world with joy and inspiration, especially the timeless gem, "Bay Area Rainy Day,” which captured the whimsy and nostalgia of rainy days in the San Francisco Bay Area where I was raised.

Fast forward to my college years, where fate intervened in the form of a dusty cassette tape – a treasure trove of my dad's musical legacy, courtesy of his dear friend, Bob Peek. After painstakingly digitizing those tapes, I hit play, and to my sheer delight, "Bay Area Rainy Day" filled the airwaves. It was a serendipitous moment that set me on a mission.

With determination in my heart and a twinkle in my eye, I set out to breathe new life into "Bay Area Rainy Day." Cue the TechStix Studio musicians, who helped me lay the foundation for my rendition of the song. But as any artist knows, there's an intangible spark that elevates a piece from good to extraordinary.

So, I bided my time, patiently waiting for the right moment to complete it. Little did I know that moment would come after I graduated from the cancer curriculum leukemia had in store for me. Talk about a plot twist, right? But hey, adversity has a funny way of bringing clarity, and with newfound purpose, I returned to the studio with a renewed sense of passion and creativity.

Collaboration was key, with loved ones including my very own mother lending their voices to the mix. And then came Liz Aday, a creative force like no other, whose harmonious background vocals added that elusive layer of magic to the song.

As I prepare to unveil "Bay Area Rainy Day" to the world, my heart swells with pride and anticipation. It's more than a song for me – it's a tribute to my dad, a celebration of life's simple pleasures, and a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.

Every storm eventually gives way to sunshine.

So, here's to dancing through the rain, embracing life's challenges, and discovering beauty in every storm. I hope you'll join me on this musical journey, and together, we'll chase rainbows and make memories that last a lifetime.

Stay tuned for "Bay Area Rainy Day" – coming soon to a playlist near you!

Catch you on the flip side,
